Frederick Shaw was born in 1899, son of Thomas and Mary Shaw of Oak Hill Farm, Alderwasley. He served with both the 1/7th and 1/6th Sherwood Foresters. He died on 22 May 1918 aged 19 and buried in Fouquiers Churchyard Extension.

Frederick Shaw's enlistment date was 18 May 1917.
His Soldier's Effects Record show his mother, Mary Shaw, as sole legatee receiving £4 1s 9d on 15/10/1918 and £3 10s 0d War Gratuity on 03/03/1920.
On 20th May 1918 the Battalion were relieved by the 1/5th Battalion and moved to Brigade support of the Essars Sector.  Likely killed or wounded by a shell.  There was a Field Ambulance near the cemetery in which he is buried.

He is also named on the Alderwasley War Memorial.
