George, born in July 1900, was a son of the Crich Police Sergeant Robert John Wyles and his wife Elizabeth Amy. They lived at the police-house on the Common, Crich. On his service record it shows that he joined the RAF in July 1918 and was recorded as being fit for observer or pilot.
