Biography
Born at Crich in 1880, Maurice lived at Belper and became a boot merchant. He moved to West Bridgford in 1903 and married Florence Ethel Lightfoot later that year. During the war he served with the RNAS. His service was shore-based in England and he was discharged in 1919. He founded the business of Messrs Rose & Co. Ltd, boot and shoe retailers, building a chain of sixteen retail shops in the East Midlands. Maurice started off as WHITE but then became WHYTE. He was named Maurice Samuel WHITE but in 1911 he signed as Maurice Sydney WHYTE.
