Biography
James was born at Stourbridge, though he was living in Fritchley by the time of the war. He worked as a carpenter throughout his life. He enlisted at Birmingham in August 1914, entered France in September that year and was appointed ‘wheeler’. During a furlough in 1916 he married Harriet Marriot of Fritchley. Demobbed in 1919, he later settled in the Birmingham area..
Many soldiers had sentimental cards created and sent home.
