We believe this to be the Samuel H. Smith on the Roll of Honour. His mother Ellen Smith (née Burton) came from Fritchley. He was born in 1887 at Borrowash, Derby to William and Ellen Smith. He died, aged thirty, on 10 June 1917 and is remembered at the Ypres (Menin Gate) memorial.
