Albert Byard in WW1

Albert was born in Alfreton, the son of Francis and Thirza Ann Byard. With his brother John William Byard the family lived at Parkhead, Crich. He was employed as a collier and married Elizabeth Bates in 1915. Enlisting for service in June 1916, he wasn’t posted until April 1918, probably due to his employment as a miner. After his wife, Elizabeth (nèe Bates), died in September qtr 1933, aged thirty-seven, he married Edith Shimwell later that year. After discharge he returned to the coal mine, later settling with his family at Bolehill. He had a family.
