Samuel Beardow (1878–1945)

Sapper

Royal Engineers

Biography
A lifelong resident of Wheatcroft, Samuel was the son of John and Hannah Beardow. His father was a wheelwright and blacksmith. Following his father’s early death in 1890 Samuel lived with his widowed mother. He was a stone mason and he married Mary A Jones in 1914 (Belper reg district) . On the original WW1 Roll in St Mary’s, Crich, his rank was given as ‘sapper’, so it is assumed that he served with the Royal Engineers, though no record of his service has yet been located. He returned to Wheatcroft after demob.
