Alfred Higton left for service on 22 November, 1916.

He was born 28 September 1896; baptised 17 Feb 1897 (Matlock Bath) and died in 1954. He married Lily Evans in 1923 [Nick Higton]

Belper News 7 July 1916 reported that Alfred Higton had his coat stolen whilst he was at the Matlock Bath switchback in the Derwent Gardens. The thief, George Vickers from Sheffield, was caught and fined 5s. Vickers had been a soldier and was returned to work in munitions in Sheffield. He was granted mercy because of his war record , discharged after paying the fine, and returning the coat to Higton.
